It is the independent public supervisory Authority responsible for the supervision of the investment services market and transactions in transferable securities carried out in the Republic of Cyprus. Cyprus is a full member of the European Union. CySEC has taken on the responsibility of ensuring the European Securities and Markets Authority's ("ESMA") mission is adopted to the regulatory environment of Cyprus.
The Markets in Financial Instruments Directive (MiFID) came into force in November of 2007 and was revised by MiFID II, taking effect in January 2018. The purpose of MiFID is to ensure a level playing field for investors throughout the European Union.
